UEFA(EUROPA(BORING)) CUP

This man is not happy after Everton were dumped out of the UEFA Cup. This was supposed to be the season that Everton broke into the top 4, but a lack of summer signings, injuries and some ghastly performances have made them look like a joke rather than contenders. Everton lost 2-1 to Standard Liege, which contributed to a 4-3 aggregate loss. Leighton Baines continued a terrible season by giving up a penalty in the 79th minute. Moyes has yet to sign a new contract, and with all the other vacancies at big clubs who are spending money there is some question whether he will.
Aston Villa tied Liteks Lovetch(sounds like an Eastern European pornstar), to progress 4-2 on aggregate. The home side were so confident that they were able to rest a number of players for their game against Chelsea on Sunday. Villa have built a strong offensive squad, and have shown their depth. If they can stop leaking goals at the back, they will be a scary side to face.
Man City defeated Omonia Nicosia 2-1, and progressed with a 4-2 aggregate victory. Elano and Wright-Phillips scored at the start of the second half to put away the game for City. They do need to find consistency, and Jo and Robinho have a habit of disappearing at times. Along with Kompany, those two came out in the second half so they would be fresh for their weekend match against Liverpool.
Tottenham tied Wisla Krakow 1-1 thanks to an own goal, and progressed to the next stage with a 3-2 aggregate victory. Pavlyuchenko is cup tied, so Bent and Campbell played up top for Tottenham. They continue to look unimpressive, but will be happy they progressed.
The real nail biter was Portsmouth's match against Guimares. Guimares scored twice in the first half to push the game to extra time. Crouch scored a brace in extra time, netting his 100th goal, and Portsmouth tied Guimares 2-2 to progress 4-2 on aggregate. They still look shaky, but just like Tottenham will have time to iron out the kinks in the next round.
