Weekend Review

Wes Brown scored his first goal in a long, long time and Wayne Rooney added the second as Manchester United defeated Blackburn 2-0. Man U look strong at the back and with Wes Brown performing well at right back, it looks like the rest of Gary Neville's career will be on the bench. Man U have been criticized for a lack of depth, but Ji-Sung Park, John O'Shea and Darren Fletcher have all impressed this season. It can only be a matter of time until the offensive quartet of Berbatov, Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo start firing on all cylinders. Arsenal drew Sunderland 1-1, and needed a Fabregas header in injury time to get a point. Much have been made of the club's youth, but it is apparent in their inconsistency. They are not controlling the midfield well enough, have not put away their chances, and this could be the end of their title hopes. WBA defeated Fulham 1-0, in a classic six-pointer. Fulham are quickly being dragged into the relegation battle, and if things don't turn around soon Hodgson might not be celebrating Christmas in London. Middlesbrough defeated Wigan 1-0, with Aliadiere scoring the winner in the 89th minute. Wigan deserved something from the game, and Zaki was unlucky not to find the score sheet again.

Hull defeated Tottenham 1-0, and Juande Ramos looks like he may soon go the way of Curbishley of Keegan. Tottenham were expected to challenge the Big Four, but currently sit at the bottom of the table. They lack any sense of cohesion, and there is no sign they'll turn it around. Bolton defeated West Ham 3-1, and it looks like Zola's honeymoon is over. Between the financial crisis affecting Iceland, the lawsuit from Sheffield United, and the fact that they are West Ham, things aren't going so well. Porsmouth defeated Stoke 2-1, as Crouch and Defoe combined to score the goals. They have formed a great partnership, and if Redknapp can summon their defensive form from last year, they should climb up the table. Chelsea defeated Aston Villa 2-0, and O'Neill said that the game showed the gulf in class that exists between the sides. Chelsea could have run up the score a bit more, but with a rash of injuries now their depth will be tested. Liverpool defeated Man City 3-2, with last minute Liverpool coming back from a 2-0 defecit. Zabaleta was sent off for a straight red card in the 67th minute, and Torres scored a brace. Dirk "Diggler" Kuyt fired the winner in the 90th minute to keep them tied at the top of the table. The blue half of Liverpool was not so lucky, Everton tied Newcastle 2-2. Arteta scored an early penalty, and Fellaini grabbed the second in what looked to be a rout. Right before halftime Steven Taylor scored for Newcastle, and Duff bagged the other in the opening minute of the second half. Everton seem to have lost confidence, and sloppy is the highest praise their defenders deserve.
